NOISE MAKING: How lagos government closed 24 churches.

The Lagos State government yesterday said at least 24 religious outfits were shut in year 2014 for contravening the State guidelines on noise pollution.

The state government further said the new Material Recovery Facility, would be established to capture the huge waste generated daily and boost the Waste-to-wealth programme in the state.

Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello and General Manager of the Lagos State Environment Protection, LASEPA, Mr Ademola Shabi, an engineer, disclosed this at the 2015 ministerial press briefing held in Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

Shabi reeling out the activities of his agency in the year under review added that 13 industries were shut for violating the environmental guidelines set by the government.

He lamented that the pollution generated daily in the state was increasing and the government must embark on measures to reduce it, adding; “We received over 1, 000 petitions in the year under review. But we have been able to resolve some and some have relocated.”

According to him, “We have shut about 24 religious outfits in the last one year because they failed to adhere to the state guidelines on noise pollution.”
The general manager explained that these religious outfits contribute “the religious outfits contribute about 50 percent of the noise pollution in the state. In the last few years, we have been having problem to control noise from these outfits. We have been able to shut them down while some have relocated from the community where they were.

What do you think of this is it right or should the banned churches fight back.

Photos: what could warrant a mother to sell her own here

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recovered a baby boy, David Johnny, who was stolen by a doctor with the connivance of his mother, Esther Johnny, and sold to a woman in Abuja.

It was learnt that the mother initially denied knowledge of the crime as the police intensified efforts to unravel the whereabouts of the baby.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Akwa Ibom State, Mike Okoli, said this in Uyo on Tuesday.

He stated that when the police apprehended the doctor, he tried to frustrate police investigation into the matter.

He added that the police had to tell the doctor that they would charge him to court for child kidnapping if he failed to produce the missing child.

The CP said, “The police in Akwa Ibom State have rescued a baby boy, David Johnny, who was stolen when he was three-day-old and handed over to a doctor in Port Harcourt. The baby was subsequently taken to Abuja.

“When we found the doctor, he refused to cooperate as he tried to frustrate the efforts of the police in investigating the case of the stolen boy.

“My officers in the trafficking department moved from Uyo to Port Harcourt, Umuahia, and Aba in search of the stolen child.

“It was not until Wednesday, April 22, when the pressure became so much, that the woman who had bought the child, took the child back to the clinic in Port Harcourt, where she bought him, and abandoned him there,” he said.

According to him it was the phone call the woman, who had bought the child, made to the doctor who was in the police custody in Uyo that enabled them to trace the baby to the hospital.

He said, “The biological mother sold the child through the doctor to the woman for N300,000.”

Esther, 18, said David was her third baby and she could not take care of all of her children.
She said she was given N150,000 from the proceeds from the sale of her baby.

List of entertainers to go with Jonathan come May 29
As President Goodluck Jonathan prepares to hand over the mantle of leadership to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari come May 29, we run a quick scan at some showbiz personalities currently holding federal government appointments and would likely take a bow with Mr. President.

Kanayo O Kanayo
Veteran actor, Kanayo O Kanayo is one of the few entertainers who have been benefitting from the leadership of the President Goodluck Jonathan. His stanch support for the outgoing government earned him an appointment as board member of one of Federal Government’s parastatals. The ace actor is currently a member of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Studies.
KOK, as he is fondly called has been one of the major ‘bridges’ between the FG and Nollywood.
With the ouster of President Jonathan, Kanayo O Kanayo may have started arranging some files in his office ahead of the May 29 handover if the board is not dissolved before then.

Onyeka Onwenu
Elegant Stallion, as ageless Nollywood actress-cum-singer prides herself has been the official musician for most presidential gatherings lately.
The ‘One Love’ crooner was appointed as the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development, NCWD, Abuja.
This development made her to campaign vigorously for the incumbent president before and during the March 28 election. Onyeka who put in all she got, including paid adverts to ensure the continuity of Jonathan government may have resorted to fate ahead of May 29. She is one of the few artists whose political career may remain dimmed until the APC government is done with Nigeria.

Ibinabo Fiberesima
She is no doubt one of the many Nigerians who were heartbroken following the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in the March 28 Presidential election.
As a first female Actors Guild of Nigeria president, Ibinabo Fiberesima was appointed into the board of the National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC, by President Jonathan.
She however came under heavy criticisms by Nollywood buffs for dragging the motion picture industry into politics by using its actors to campaign for Jonathan.
The mother of five who led 80 Nollywod delegates to Aso rock for a courtesy visit to President Jonathan, making him their grand patron, flew abroad after Jonathan’s defeat as she knew her time was up. Ibinabor will be the last Actress to be considered for any position under the incoming administration.

Bongos Ikwue
Idoma-born music star and Cock Crow at Dawn crooner, Bongos Ikwue has been enjoying a quiet in his Otukpo country for a while now.
At a point, he was rumoured to be having serious financial crisis before he resurfaced with a 70-tracker album entitled, The Way It Is.
The Double K Resort boss was recently appointed chairman of the board of the Nigerian Film Corporation by the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan. His age may count for him this time around as the incoming government may likely keep him. Aside his age, his political affiliation was at no point clearly defined, even as he never made any awful utterances against the opposition.

Obi Asika
The last cabinet reshuffle by the President, Goodluck Jonathan saw the appointment of popular entertainment personality,‎ Obi Asika as the new Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to the president.
Obi Asika replaced Reno Omokiri who was the Special Assistant to Jonathan on New Media in what is pretty much the same office.
However, Asika’s appointment and his huge online presence could not save his boss from defeat on March 28.
The Anambra State-born entrainment personality‎ funded the famous Storm 360 Limited in 2008 alongside Olisa Adibua.‎
Asika has however reached the climax of his political career and may want to return to his business of entertainment.

Richard Mofe Damijo
Journalist-turned-actor, Richard Mofe Damijo, famously known as RMD is no doubt one of the longest serving entertainers in the present administration.
RMD has been the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, Nigeria under the government of Emmanuel Uduaghan since 2009.
Until his appointment as commissioner, the ex-Concord reporter was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Entertainment/Talent development where he used his wealth of experience in the entertainment industry for the development of Delta State.
Recall that his ministry was accused of embezzling N50m but the matter was swept under the carpet.
As his principal, Uduaghan prepares to handover the baton of leadership to Ifeanyi Okowa, winner of the last governorship election; RMD is gradually preparing his handover note ahead of May 29 as it is not certain the incoming government will consider him for any other position.
HEART OF GOLD: (Photos) how 18 year old carries friend on his back everyday to school for 3 years
Every day for the last 3 years 18-year-old Xie Xu has been carrying his disabled classmate to school on his back in Xuzhou, northern China.

Xie Xu gives Zhang Chi a piggy back for three years

Kind-hearted Xie Xu has been hailed as “the most beautiful student in China” after spending three years giving piggybacks to his disabled best friend. 19-year-old Zhang Chi suffers from muscular dystrophy, a condition that affects skeletal muscle and makes it extremely hard to walk.

For now, Xie makes at least a dozen daily trips with his friend

He also helps him with daily tasks such as cooking and washing clothes
But thanks to Xie he has never missed a single class at their Daxu High School. Xie makes at least a dozen daily trips with his friend, two hundred days per year, he also helps him with daily tasks such as cooking and washing clothes

Xie exerts positive influence on other students
Besides, Xie Xu and Zhang Chi are the top students in their class. Guo Chunxi, the deputy headmaster at their school said: “The story of the two students is so inspiring and touching. They aren’t family but Xie has been doing this for three years. He’s the most beautiful student. He also exerts positive influence on other students, who readily help Zhang. With their assistance, Zhang has never missed out on one single class.”

They virtually do everything together.

I was terribly moved .... He has written his name in the sands of time.
You wouldn't believe how much Jonathan and sambo is retiring with.

President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice-president Namadi Sambo, non-returning federal lawmakers, ministers and presidential aides will collect N3.24bn as severance allowances.

Punch reports that this is part of the remuneration package put together by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission. The package shows that  Jonathan, who will hand over on May 29, is entitled to 300 per cent of his annual basic salary. The President’s annual basic salary is put at N3, 514,705 and therefore his severance allowance will be N10, 544,115 after May 29.

Also, Vice-President Sambo, who leaves office the same day as Jonathan, is also entitled to 300 per cent of his annual basic salary put at N3, 031,572.50. This means that his severance allowance after May 29 is N9, 094,717.50. These two positions have some constitutional benefits at the end of the day.

About 76 senators are not returning to the National Assembly due to the failure in their bids to return. These senators, just like Jonathan and Sambo, are however entitled to N462,019,200 at the expiration of their tenure on June 5, the 300 per cent of their annual basic salaries as severance allowances . This means  every senator will get N6, 079,200.

Also, in the House of Representatives, about 290 members are not returning to the 8th National Assembly to be proclaimed into existence by Buhari on June 5. Each of the members is entitled to N5, 955,637.50 as severance allowance. This means that the 290 members   will be paid N1, 727,134,875. The ministers, on the other hand, will be collecting a total of N253, 967,212.5. There are 42 ministers in Jonathan’s cabinet. Thirty one of them are senior ministers and 11 are ministers of state. Each of the senior ministers is entitled to N6, 079,200 severance allowance while each of the ministers of state   will receive N5, 872,740.

This means that collectively, the senior ministers will get N188, 455,200 at the expiration of their tenure on May 29 while collectively, the ministers of state will be collecting N65, 512,012.5 . The aides to the President comprising special advisers, senior special assistants and special assistants   will   get   N775, 207,125.

There are 23 of them who work with the president as special advisers. Apart from this number, however, there are several others estimated at 110 who work with the vice-president, the First Lady(Patience Jonathan) and special advisers that are designated either as senior special assistants or special assistants to the President.

This means that there are about 133 aides to the president and each of them is entitled to 300 per cent of their annual basic salary which amounts to N5, 828,625. The Nigerian democracy has been identified as one of the costliest in the world as a result of a large number of political office holders.

With this report, some experts are of the opinion that a cabinet made up of 42 ministers is way too large, but constitutionally, each of the 36 states   is expected to be represented in the Federal Executive Council. Bicameralism is another source of worry for many observers who believe that Nigeria can do with one chamber of the National Assembly. Some Nigerians have called for part-time legislature as a means of saving cost.

LUCKIEST:How Filipino woman escaped Indonesia firing squad.

Jane Veloso was spared from death last minute before the execution
Mary Jane Veloso was spared from death by firing squad in response to a request from Filipino authorities after a woman who allegedly gave her a suitcase with a false bottom containing 2.6 kg of heroin gave herself up to police in the Philippines on Tuesday. The request came last minutes before the execution. However, the other convicts, including four Nigerians, had to face a firing squad. Here are their last minutes:

11pm-11.30pm (Indonesian time)

A firing squad of twelve policemen gathered at the execution site. They were given wages of less than $100 for execution.
Policemen take position ten steps from where the inmates will be positioned.
The commander loads each policeman’s rifle with one round. Only three of twelve are live ammunition.

11.30-11.59 p.m. (Indonesian time)

Sentenced to death escorted from their cells. Their hands and feet bound and eyes blindfolded. Sentenced to death can choose whether they want to be shot standing, sitting or kneeling.
After final minutes with a religious counsellor the commander draws a black mark over inmates’ hearts.

11.59pm-00.00 a.m.
The commander raises a sword and policemen fire their rifles after he swishes sword down.
The Indonesian authorities decided to stop the execution of Mary Jane Veloso, now 30, to revise her case of smuggling heroin inside the country in 2010.

The woman insists she was unaware of the real contents of the suitcase she was arrested with. The woman’s family also maintains that she was duped into carrying the drugs inside Indonesia.
Earlier on Saturday Indonesian court ruled out a decision to execute nine convicts including Mary Jane Veloso, within next 72 hours, despite pleas from UN chief, Amnesty International and foreign leaders.

300 girls ,93 women rescued from Bokoharam stronghold

Nigerian troops on Tuesday carried out a daring and precise operation on Boko Haram’s stronghold of Sambisa Forest and rescued about 300 women among whom were believed to be the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped over a year ago by Boko Haram insurgents.

No fewer than three major terrorists’ camps were also destroyed in the well-coordinated attacks that include the raid of the notorious Tokumbere camp in the Sambisa Forest.

Confirming the success of the operation, Director of Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade said he could not confirm the identity of the freed victims and their origins, adding that he could not state if any of them was from Chibok until after thorough screening and proper investigations.

According to him, “I can only confirm the rescued this afternoon of 200 girls and 93 women in different camps in the forest.

“We are yet to determine their origin as all the freed persons are now being screened and profiled. Please don’t misquote me on their origin. We will provide more details later.”

Meanwhile, at least 17 people and five others were killed by suspected members of the blood-lust insurgents in Marguba community and other surrounding villages of Beneshiekh, the headquarters of Kaga local government area of Borno state.
The insurgents according to sources also injured many residents after setting ablaze several houses mostly thatched roofs before looting foodstuff and livestock.

Beneshiekh is North-West and about 76 kilometers drive from Maiduguri, the state capital. It is located on the fringes of Sambisa forest along Maiduguri- Damaturu- Kano road which have witnessed series of deadly attacks by the terrorists.

This development is coming barely 24 hours after some group of insurgents laid ambush on some returning residents, killing 21 in Bultaram village of Gujba council area of the state while attempting to return to their sacked village to evacuate their abandoned foodstuff and livestock.

Fleeing residents who are now taking refuge in Beneshiekh town say that “the insurgents came from Sambisa forest axis and stormed the villages on Monday evening, wrecked havoc as they had a field day without confrontation”.

AMAZING: Five amazing things sleeping Naked can do to you.
Sleeping is one of the most important things we do every night.

When it comes to the bed and being naked, most people will only slip out of their pajamas and into their birthday suit when they’re turning up the heat in the bedroom. After a bit of getting down under the sheets, they grab the closest clothes and cover up, but experts say this is a bad habit.

Several scientific studies have shown that sleeping with clothes on can negatively affect our quality of sleep, and overall health.

Sleeping naked provides several health benefits for our body, ranging from an improved hormonal balance and mood to better sex.

Below are some amazing reasons sleeping naked is good for your health:

1. Better and deeper sleep:

Getting a good night’s sleep is easier said than done for most people who are light sleepers, toss and turn throughout the night, or are simply too busy that they barely sleep. Achieving the optimal amount of sleep is contingent on the room temperature and overall sleeping environment. If we’re too hot, this will prevent the body’s core temperature to reach the optimal parameters, which can lead to restlessness, and even insomnia. Sleeping naked will prevent the body from overheating, and will therefore lead to a better night’s sleep.

2. Look forever young:

Do you really want to live forever and ever young ..remember that hit song from jay z.
The term “beauty rest,” is not just a myth. Maintaining a room temperature that is no higher than 70 degrees while we sleep allows the anti-aging hormones – melatonin and the growth hormone to function properly. A sleep environment that is too hot will not allow the body to naturally cool itself and disrupts the release of these hormones. Sleeping in complete darkness stimulates the release of melatonin, which cools the body, and then the growth hormone is released. Hormones will work better at lower temperatures and will allow the body to regenerate resulting better hair and skin.

3. Lose Weight:

A good night’s sleep is the best way to fight stress, which causes belly fat. At night, the production of the growth hormone increases while cortisol, the stress hormone decreases. It is during 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. when our body is resting, which means cortisol should be at its lowest. In the morning, cortisol levels reach their highest point to get us energized by the time we get out of bed. If we don’t get a good night’s rest, we tend to wake up with abnormally high cortisol levels that can trigger our appetite for comfort foods and lead to overeating.

4. Better Sex:

Sleeping in the nude with your partner can help stimulate the release of the “love” hormone oxytocin. The skin-to-skin touching will increase a sexual responsiveness and orgasm, while counteracting stress and depression through fighting off the effects of cortisol and blood pressure. “When you and your partner both sleep naked, the skin-to-skin contact will release the feel-good hormone,” Dr. Fran Walfish, psychotherapist and author, The Self-Aware Parent, said. A recent study conducted by Cotton USA found sleeping naked actually encourages physical and emotional intimacy between couples, leading to happier relationships.

5. Protects your vagina:

Yes protects your vagina ...weird right? But it does that .
You see Ladies, when it comes to our lady parts, it’s always best to be safe than sorry. Many women express fear over sleeping naked and its effect on the vagina, deeming it unsanitary. Bacteria thrive in moist, warm environments, especially in women prone to vaginal infections. When you sleep naked, the vagina will get more ventilation, increasing its ability to stay dry and reducing the probability of fungal infection. For men, sleeping naked has been found to increase fertility by keeping the testes at a reasonable temperature. It can also retain the sperm quality, too.

It’s time to slip into your birthday suit and sleep your way to good health.

Showdown as PDP battles APC for speakership seat..we are majority - APC

Abuja - Despite being the minority party in the House of Representatives, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is planning to field a candidate for the Speaker of the House, reports Peoples Daily.

The party’s caucus in the House has been holding meetings to strategize on how the party can present a speakership candidate to checkmate the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The thinking of the party is that since there is no provision in the Constitution or House rules that says that only the ruling party should produce the Speaker of the House, the party believes it can use its members to turn the table against the APC.

The party plans to push forward a reliable and popular lawmaker who is a great bridge builder among them.
The PDP has about 140 lawmakers while the All Progressives Congress (APC) has 200 lawmakers.
APC has alleged that since Nigerian's history the majority has always occupied the speakership seat. Though it's not constitutional.
