What JAMB and Schools Do When You Reject Admission on CAPS

As part of the yearly admission process, candidates are to continually be checking their
JAMB CAPS status and when offered admission thereon, accept or reject the offer. Now, what happens if you should reject the admission? Below is the official update on how JAMB and schools will handle things.

The three scenarios identified are:
  1. Where a candidate is offered admission into a programme and he/she does not want the programme/Institution during year’s admission-exercise.
  2. Where a candidate is offered admission and after acceptance, he/she or the institution is desirous of changing the programme offered and accepted while the year’s admission is still in progress.
  3. Where a candidate is offered admission and he/she neither accept nor reject the offer and the institution is desirous of substituting the candidate.

Agreed Solution (Process) to Address the Three (3) Scenarios

1. Where a candidate is offered admission into a programme and he/she does not want to accept the programme/institution during the year’s admission exercise, he/she does the following:
  • The candidate would only need to reject the offer of admission and the candidate would be available to the institution or any other institution in addition to the market place for reconsideration (recommendation) through CAPS. This is an established procedure.
  • The quota utilised for such candidates would also be released and made available to the institution automatically.

2. Where a candidate is offered admission and after acceptance, he/she or the institution is desirous of changing the programme offered and accepted while the year’s admission is still in progress, the following is applicable:
  • The candidate will complete and process Substitution of Programme Form which is available on eFacility for download. The Form would read in part “I have accepted earlier to read…………….. and now agree that my programme should be changed to …………..……”. Registration number, Name of the candidate, Name of the institution and any other vital information should also be reflected.
  •
  • The Head of the institution MUST sign the form which would be transmitted to Coordinator of the JAMB State Office for upload for Registrar’s approval
  • Once the Registrar gives approval, the candidate’s status is automatically updated and he/she would be informed through mail.
  • Through synchronization, CAPS is notified.

3. Where a candidate is offered admission and he/she neither accepts nor rejects the offer and institution is desirous of substituting the candidate, the following applies:
  • The institution would forward the list of the candidates to the Board through CAPS in the following format
Registration No
Name
Course Offered
Date of Offer (i.e. date of approval by Desk Officer)
Reason (if any) for non-response
Remark (to include I want to replace, I want to …e.t.c)
  • The list must be signed by the Head of the institution for Registrar’s approval.
  • Once approved by the Registrar, the candidates would be deleted automatically and the utilised quota is made available again to the institution.

In case a candidate does not accept or reject admission on CAPS before JAMB’s closure of CAPS for the year, the candidate would not be regarded as admitted and would not be on matriculation list for the year. He is not expected to be registered by any institution without JAMB’s admission letter which cannot be printed without acceptance of admission.

Five Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do With Google Search

Using Google can be straightforward, whether you are doing academic research for assignments as a student, finding out about competitors as a business person or just for entertainment. Google Search’s Web, Image, Video, News, Maps and More tabs help ensure you get the kind of results you are after.

Here are 5 things you didn’t know you could do with Google Search.

1. Search lyrics to your favourite songs

Google displays music lyrics at the top of its search results pages when you search for “song name” plus “lyrics”. Now you can find the lyrics to your favourite songs and own the stage at karaoke, as a chorister, a musician or just simply as a music lover.

2. Search by voice

You can also search Google by speaking. Simply click on the microphone icon, say what you want to search for, and watch Google reveal the results. You can find the microphone icon on the right-hand side of the Google Search bar. Go ahead, click and speak.

3. Search health conditions

Search for a health condition and relevant health knowledge panel results appear, providing a snapshot of the condition, its symptoms and possible treatment. Health knowledge panels are available on both mobile and desktop, covering over 800 health conditions.

Did you know Google collaborated with a team of medical experts from institutions such as the University of Ibadan and the Mayo Clinic to ensure that all the gathered facts represent real-life clinical knowledge from health institutions and experts around the world? It should be noted though that the health card feature is intended for informational purposes only, users are advised to consult a medical professional regarding actual health concerns.

4. Find jobs faster on search

Searching for a job can take time. And keeping up with new jobs that are posted throughout the day can be challenging. Whether you are a graduate seeking a job or an employee looking for the next opportunity, Google offers a quick and easy way to find suitable vacant positions. Job seekers can search for, and apply to, open positions directly from the Google search bar. Just type the job query into Google Search and it will give you a list of jobs that match that query. Details of the job posting, such as job title, location, whether the job is full-time, part-time or an internship will be included.

If you use Google Maps integration, you can also search for jobs in any place that you can find on the map, and if you are signed in, you can even see how long it will take to commute from home. Google has also made keeping up with new vacancies easy – simply push the “get alerts” button to get email notifications when new jobs matching your search appear.

5. Google the weather

If you’re planning your day, your week or some fantastic weekend getaway, it is important to take the weather into consideration. Asking Google what the weather will be like wherever you will be heading to lets you know if you will be needing an umbrella or a pair of sunglasses and guide you in your choice of clothing.

If you’re travelling and want to know what to pack, simply ask Google, “What is the weather at Enugu like”, or type in “weather at Enugu”, and right there on your search results page, you’ll get the current forecast, extending to the next week.
Protesters Carry Placard Blaming Victims Found Dead In Port-Harcourt Hotel (Pix)
Twitter users called out the protesters for victim-blaming.

Some pointed out that the murdered women were likely victims of the latest method of ritual killings where online vendors are lured to hotels for business but on getting there they are killed.

Other pointed out that even if the slain women were prostitutes, that doesn't excuse their murder.

The protest comes barely 24 hours after another female victim was found dead in an hotel room in the city of Port Harcourt, on Sunday.

At least, 10 ladies have been reportedly killed under similar circumstances, within the space of few months all in Port Harcourt.

Police Speaks On Alleged Invasion Of Nnamdi Kanu’s Residence
Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Abia state Command, on Sunday denied invading the country home of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in Isiama Afra-Ukwu Ibeku in Umuahia.

However, the command’s spokesperson, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna speaking to newsmen in the state on Sunday said Kanu’s home was never besieged by security agents.

He said: “Why would security agents besiege Kanu’s home?

“Kanu, I’m sure is not around and in his Afara-Ukwu home. I’m sure for now is safe.

“You know these days, people spread rumours anyhow.”

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB on Saturday alleged that the federal government in collaboration with Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, were planning to kill members of Nnamdi Kanu’s family who are living in his compound in Isiama, Afaraukwu in Umuahia.
Part Of Igbo Land Where You Mustn’t Kill A Python
Pythons may be considered dangerous the world over, but in Idemili area of Anambra State, Igbo Land, Nigeria, people honour pythons so much that it is a taboo to harm or kill one. Pythons are called Eke Idemili, which literarily means ‘python of Idemili’.

Idemili people are known to gently entreat a Python that has entered their house to come out, rather than try to kill it.

What happens if you decide to kill one to see what will happen? The community where the python was killed will force you to accord the snake a befitting burial like that of human being.

You will have to buy coffin, bags of rice, cow/goat, rent canopies and chairs, pay for local canon to be shot and other expenses.

So, while in Idemili, don’t kill pythons.

Tribunal Victory: Tinubu Congratulates Ogun Governor
ALL Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has congratulated Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun over the judgment of the state’s Governorship Election Petition Tribunal affirming his victory in the March poll.

Asiwaju Tinubu said the APC candidate truly deserved the victory, “despite the intimidation, harassment and violence unleashed on your numerous supporters and other shenanigans perpetrated by known opposition elements within and outside our party, APC”.

The tribunal, headed by Justice Yusuf Halilu, threw out the petition filed by Abdulkadir Adekunle Akinlade and the Allied People’s Movement (APM).

The judge held that the petitioners “not only failed, but also irredeemably failed” to prove their allegations of over-voting and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

In a congratulatory letter to Abiodun, dated September 15, which he personally signed, Asiwaju Tinubu said: “Saturday’s judgment of the Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal affirming your electoral victory has further demonstrated that your election was indeed a true reflection of the wishes of your people.
“We were all living witnesses to the fact that despite the intimidation, harassment and violence unleashed on your numerous supporters and other shenanigans perpetrated by known opposition elements within and outside our party, APC, you emerged victorious because the people of Ogun stood by you.

“Undaunted by all of that, you ran a clean, peaceful, issues-based campaign. You were, by far, the most popular and most qualified of the governorship candidates, hence your election. You truly deserve your victory.

“This is now time to extend your hand of fellowship to the APM candidate and others who contested against you and indeed other stakeholders in the state. You must re-dedicate yourself to re-uniting the people and be the governor for all.

“Ogun State deserves development; Ogun State deserves industrialisation. Having made success in your private multi-sectoral entrepreneurial life, you are best placed to replicate this in Ogun. This you must do within the shortest possible time.

“Once again, I congratulate you and wish you God’s guidance in the daunting, but not insurmountable tasks, ahead of you.”

Prof. Onwuliri Allegedly In A Horse Battle To Become IMSU New Vice Chancellor

Prof. Viola Onwuliri is the current commissioner for Education in Imo state and has been accused of hacting plans to become the Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University.

An inside source has it that she wants to replace Prof. Adaobi Obasi. That was one of the reasons she was at the University twenty-four hours after her inauguration as Commissioner. That was why too, she accepted the position of Commissioner after several years of being a Federal Minister. And since after her visit to the University, there has never been peace again in the Institution with various and instigated allegations against the Management of the University coming from all fronts.

Recall that Prof. Obasi before her appointment as IMSU VC was the former commissioner for Education.

The tenure of the VC is five years and that of Prof. Adaobi is constitutionally yet to elapse. Regardless of the fore knowledge of the Executive Governor who is a visitor to the university and enjoys the privilege of appointing a new Vice Chancellor at will. Till then Prof. Obasi remains the Vice chancellor of the University.

800m IMSU TETFUND Furniture Scam: VC Washes Hands Off

The Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Owerri, Prof Adaobi Obasi has denied involvement in the alleged missing whooping sum, descrbing it as not only ridiculous and false, but laughable.

Prof Obasi maintained that no right thinking individual could subscribe to the allegation that N800 million allegedly set aside for the furnishing of the university's Senate building was converted to personal use, saying that it was impossible for anyone to access Tetfund money order than authorized contractors and consultants.

It could be recalled that the IMSU VC was alleged to have converted N800 million mapped out by Tetfund for the furnishing of the university's Senate building to personal use, authorized illegal collection of N2000 each from first year students totalling N47 million and lodged in a private account, and extortion of N400,000 for admission racketeering by her aides respectively among others.

The IMSU Vice Chancellor denied these allegations Wednesday while responding to questions from newsmen in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

According to her, individuals should appreciate her achievements in the institution since she assumed office as Vice Chancellor rather than engaging in falsehood to dampen her sterling records, and accused those seeking to take over her seat of peddling the rumour.

Prof Obasi while challenging those behind the allegation to remember that days of reckoning were near, warning them to desist from blackmailing the institution or face the wrath of the law.

She revealed that in her quest to fight misconducts, committee was set up by the school management to checkmate unethical behaviours of the staff and recommend adequate punishment, expressing bitterness that those afraid of such committee were behind the falsehoods.

The first female VC of IMSU therefore disclosed that the University received recommendations from Tetfund and other reputable academic bodies, wondering how such honours could be possible if management of the school engaged in fraudulent activities.

While describing the allegations as not only hollow and empty but laced with envy and blackmail, called on the public to disregard it and view it as part of their antics to drag her name to the wall.

Nigerian undergraduate shot by police buried, more students arrested

One of the students killed during Tuesday’s protest by students of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Dada Kehinde, was on Thursday buried amidst tears and angst.

The Nigerian police have been blamed for the death of two students during the protest, but have refused to take responsibility.

The victims died of gunshot wounds fired by police officers, multiple witnesses said. Videos of police officers shooting to disperse the protesters have also been circulated on social media.

Rather than arrest and prosecute the shooters, however, the police have been arresting students who allegedly manhandled two of its officers.
