Nigeria To Play Offensive Football In Egypt - Gernot Rohr

The Super Eagles are planning to go all out as they target their fourth continental crown in Egypt.

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr revealed that his side are aiming to score more goals and will play offensive football at the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The three-time African champions have included nine forwards in their 23-man squad list for the biennial showpiece.

Changchun Yatai's Odion Ighalo leads the frontline with Ahmed Musa, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Henry Onyekuru, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Kalu, Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen all included.
Despite settling for a goalless draw in their build-up game against Zimbabwe last Saturday, Rohr sees the available options upfront as an opportunity for the team to switch tactics during play and also give chance for fresh legs.

"We have a lot of strikers which means we want to score more goals and play offensive football, we also have good defenders," Rohr told Goal.

"Some of our strikers could play in the midfield or in the plan 3-5-2 on the side, so it is good to have the opportunity to change in our offensive methods.

"We have quickness and ability to change in the offensive department, We can also give them the chance to rest."

Two red house sealed in calabar because of under age prostitution

The National Agency for Prohibition of
Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, yesterday,
sealed two brothels in Calabar for harbouring
under-aged commercial sex workers.
Leader of the NAPTIP operation team, Mr.
Godwin Eyake, told newsmen that the
operation followed an order of the Federal
High Court in Calabar.
“We are carrying out the order of the Federal
High Court, Calabar, to seal the brothels
pending the determination of criminal
investigation against their owners,” he said.
Eyake said the agency had earlier carried out
a raid on the brothels after it was discovered
that they were harbouring under-aged girls
for prostitution.
According to him, “we had taken the owners
of the brothels to court and the court ordered
the sealing of the brothels pending
investigations. So, we are here to carry out
the court’s order. It may be temporary or
permanent; the court will decide.”
Eyake, who is the Director of Operations, Uyo
Command of NAPTIP, described the use of
under-aged girls for prostitution as “very
sad,” saying the agency was determined to
rid the zone of child trafficking and
prostitution.
“There are many of such brothels in Calabar
but with time, we will visit all of them. It is
criminal to use under-aged girls for
prostitution, whether within Nigeria or outside
the country.
“NAPTIP is out for the perpetrators of this
ugly act and anybody caught will face the
full weight of the law.”

NASS management Bars journalists from covering inauguration of new lawmakers

Despite the withdrawal of the draconian
guidelines for the accreditation of journalists,
the National Assembly Management has again
moved to bar over 150 accredited journalists
from covering the inauguration of the 9th
national assembly on Tuesday, June 11.
The decision which is coming barely three weeks
after the management of the national assembly
suspended the move to issue fresh guidelines to
the journalists covering the parliament.
The new move was discovered on Thursday
following the instruction by the management
that only 10 reporters would be allowed to cover
the inauguration as far as print media is
concerned, just as few of television and radio
reporters were selected for the event.
Out of over 15 photojournalists covering the two
chambers, only one was accredited to cover the
event, making the list of a very few names
selected out of the 160 registered journalists
who are members of the House and Senate Press
Corps.
List of journalists shortlisted to cover 9th
Assembly inauguration
Since 1999 accredited journalists covering the
legislature have been allowed to occupy the
press gallery to cover the proceedings while
other reporters monitored the proceedings via
live telecast from the screen mounted at the
press centre.
But the provisions were not allowed with this
restriction as those that were not included in
the list will not be allowed to have access to the
National Assembly.
The implication of the latest arrangement is
that some media houses would be locked out of
the complex until the entire proceedings are
concluded on Tuesday.

Nigerian flying eagles were literally bundled out of hotel in Poland

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria who
were sent packing from the ongoing
U20 FIFA World Cup in Poland on
Monday were literally bundled out
of the Hotel Ambassador Premium
Tuesday after failing to vacate
their rooms.
The Nigeria U20s are protesting the
nonpayment of their allowances
and qualification bonus totaling US
$5,000 per player.
The BBC reports that Nigeria will fly
out of Poland today after a
dispute about bonus payments at
the Under-20 World Cup was
verbally settled.
The Flying Eagles were due to leave
on Tuesday after a 2-1 loss to
Senegal in the round of 16.
However the squad refused to leave
their hotel in Lodz after the Nigeria
Football Federation (NFF) failed to
pay about US$5,000 per player
bonus.
This led to players and officials
missing their scheduled flights to
Abuja.
The NFF has promised they will be
paid on their return to Nigeria but
despite the assurances the players
remained wary.
“It’s been verbally resolved now
and we have arrived in the city of
Warsaw,” one of the players told
BBC Sport.
“We were promised $2,000 in
bonuses and our camp allowance of
$100 per day, sadly we never got
anything and to think our coaches
are being owed wages too.
“After what happened here it’s
difficult to trust anyone when we
return home, but we have decided
to leave on Wednesday after
reassuring words from the NFF
general secretary Mr. Sanusi
Mohammed.”
The NFF, which receives direct
funding from government, has
struggled to get approval for the
release of funds.
The cash-strapped NFF, which has
been forced to seek financial help
from sponsors to cater for the
various national teams on
international assignments, has now
had to make alternative flight
arrangements for the squads.
