Oil price to increase in multi-months

Oil prices have surged to their highest level
in months , with the US West Texas
Intermediate rising above $58 per barrel
and Brent trading north of $67.
The instability in Venezuela and the
growing evidence of a slowdown in US
shale have pushed prices up .
Weekly figures showed that US oil
production dipped to 12 million barrels per
day last week , down from 12 . 1 million bpd
the week before.
The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting
Countries reduced production by 221 , 000
bpd in February, a more modest reduction
than in prior months .
Most of the reductions came from
Venezuela, which saw output drop by
142, 000 bpd . Meanwhile, OPEC estimated
that OECD inventories rose by 22 million
barrels in January, or 19 million barrels
above the five -year average.

Ihedioha has no right to give directives to banks. Gov. Okorocha blasts Imo governorship elect

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has
said that the governor -elect , Emeka
Ihedioha , has no constitutional powers to
issue directives to banks when he has yet
to take over the affairs of the state .
Okorocha, in a statement issued by his
chief press secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo , on
Friday in Owerri , said that the governor-
elect was behaving like a typical member of
the Peoples Democratic Party .
The governor said that Ihedioha was only
interested in the treasury of the state .
Okorocha asked Ihedioha to exercise
patience until May 29 before he would start
issuing directives to banks on the financial
dealings of the state .
He said , “ Emeka Ihedioha , who was
declared winner of the governorship
election in the state by the Prof Francis
Ezeonu, does not have the right or locus
standi yet , to harass or give directives to
the financial Institutions in the state over
their dealings with the state government.
“The media report quoting Ihedioha to have
given such directive is unfortunate and a
sign of ugly things to come . Otherwise,
Ihedioha should not have been the first, of
all the governors -elect in the country , to
issue such directive .

the directive because as a PDP man , his
interest , first and foremost , will be the
treasury of the state , and the policy or the
slogan of share the money will soon come
back , but he should exercise patience and
wait till he is sworn in .
“He shouldn ’ t be in a hurry . There is a
government in place and until May 29,
2019, that government should continue . ”
Meanwhile, the leader of the Movement for
the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of
Biafra and Biafra Independence Movement ,
Chief Ralph Uwazuruike , has appealed to
politicians in the state not to contest
Ihedioha ’ s victory at the tribunal.
He said challenging the result of the
election in court would distract Ihedioha
when he assumes office .
Uwazuruike , who spoke in Owerri, said ,
“Instead of dragging him to court , let them
join hands with him to move the state
forward . There are many wraths to clear in
the state . Dragging him to court will
distract him and draw the state far
backwards . ”
The MASSOB leader said he was speaking as
a concerned Imo citizen , noting that
Ihedioha was not his candidate .
He said , “ Before the election , all the
governorship candidates came to my
residence to plead with me for
endorsement but I instructed my followers
to vote according to their conscience .
“As loyal followers, they respected me and
voted candidates of their choice .
“As Ihedioha won the election in the end , I
thought that other governorship contenders
should have all congratulated him , instead
of thinking of going to court . ”
Admitting that the defeated candidates have
the right to go to court , Uwazuruike
observed that such a development would
not help the state .
Uwazuruike said , “ If they go to court , it
will distract him the more . He should be
allowed to carry out his duties without
disturbance , so that if he fails to perform,
there will not be any excuse he will give for
not delivering and at the end of four years,
he will be shown the way out like others . ”
He further contended that if Ihedioha was
taken to court , he would use the state ’ s
resources to fight the legal battle , thereby
endangering the state ’ s economy to the
detriment of the citizens .
Uwazuruike also called for the application
of the Imo Charter of Equity , which
provides for the rotation of the
governorship position among the three
senatorial zones.

“If God in his infinite mercies has given
Ihedioha , who is from Owerri Zone the
chance to govern for four years, let all of us
support him so that when he leaves office ,
another zone will be given the chance to
govern , ” he said .
He, therefore , advised the governor -elect to
show political magnanimity by carrying
everybody along .
He also urged him to pave the way for the
Imo Charter of Equity to prevail.

Buhari is poorer than he was in 2015. Osibanjo said

The Vice President stated this on
Thursday night when he hosted a dinner
in honour of volunteers who canvassed
for votes for the All Progressives
Congress, APC during the campaigns in
the general election, at the Old Banquet
Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to him, “When I looked at his assets
declaration form, I was checking it in 2015, I
said to him, “Mr President, I am so much
richer than you, it is an embarrassment.”
He further said, “I am only a soldier, you are
a big lawyer so you should have more money
than me.” I can tell you that he is perhaps;
even poorer than he was in 2015 when I saw
his declaration of assets form.”
Osinbajo urged Nigerians to vote for the APC
in the March 23 supplementary elections in
the six states the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC, declared elections
He said “We are still not done with the
elections. On the 23rd of March, we still have
some outstanding states and as you know we
are re-running in about six states.
“And all of the efforts we need to put into
those six states, we still need to do.
“We can’t afford to slack off and say the job
is done; we still have some things to do.”
Recalling the experiences he had during this
year’s electioneering, Professor Osinbajo said
his encounter with Nigerians as he crisscrossed
the country, campaigning for votes, showed
that Nigerians are so trusting and supportive
of their leaders.
He said, “I think that one of the main
characteristics of the Nigerian is how so
supportive and trusting many of our people
are and they don’t ask us for too much.
“They never really ask for anything that is
impossible to do.
“And that’s why, for many of us that went
around this country, we realized the
tremendous amount of work that there is to
do and our capacity to do so much work.
“What our people need, as we discovered,
isn’t that much.
“As a matter of fact, I do not know any
nation where the people are so generous no
matter how poor they are.”
Vice President Osinbajo said there was need
for the administration of President
Muhammadu Buhari to connect more with the
“It just struck me that what we really need to
do a lot more is to connect with the people.
“All the people need is opportunity for us to
interact with them.
“We should have a way by which everybody is
involved one way or the other.
“One of the complaints that people made
about our government is that we were not
communicating enough and that people did
not know what had done.”

The vice president acknowledged that the
diligent communication carried out to put
across the APC message in 2015 was not
sustained, making the administration lose
some ground to the opposition, especially in
the social media.
He said the new administration would ensure
that it makes change in that regard.
Osinbajo said that he would take up everyone
who has challenged the administration on the
issue with a view to getting its communication
of programmes and policies better.
Earlier, the Deputy Chief of Staff in the State
House, Ade Ipaye, said the volunteers worked
during the campaigns to demonstrate the
integrity and capability of the candidates of
the APC.

Please give me my certificate. Okorocha begs inec

The current governor of Imo state and the
senator elect in the just concluded National

Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, Mr Rochas Okorocha, Wednesday asked
the commission to hand him over his

seize his certificate because of a mere
petition against him.

Okorocha made this known when some of his
supporters marched to the government house
to protest.
Recall that INEC removed his name from the
list of senators-elect who will receive their
various certificates on Thursday. The
commission argued that the governor was
declared winner under duress.
In view of the above therefore, Okorocha
opined, “I wonder why INEC will withhold my
certificate for a frivolous reason, without
hearing from me. I am not a violent person
and those who know me know that,” he said.
“This is why we have peace in Imo state. The
Returning Officer could not have done that

black nation has dropped to 4 thposition in
global HIV prevalence rate, a new survey
The report is contained in the Nigeria HIV /
AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey , which
was organised by the Federal Government
and funded principally by the United States
Government and other relevant
Prior to the survey, Nigeria had the second
highest HIV /AIDS prevalence with 3. 2
million persons having the disease .
According to the report, the number of
women with the deadly virus is twice the
number of men that has it.
The state with the highest prevalence of
HIV/ AIDS is now Akwa Ibom. The survey
also shows that northern Nigeria has a
lower HIV / AIDS burden than the South.
It states that while the North - West has the
lowest prevalence rate at 0. 6 per cent , the
South-South geopolitical zone has the
highest with 3. 1 per cent.
Briefing journalists after the report was
launched by President Muhammadu Buhari
on Thursday , the Director -General of the
National Agency for the Control of AIDS , Dr
Sani Aliyu, said Nigeria was behind South
Africa, Mozambique and India .
Aliyu said the survey had a large sample
size of 225, 000 persons drawn from more
than 97 , 000 households across all the local
government areas of Nigeria , making it
truly representative of the general
population .
He said NAIIS was the biggest HIV survey
done by any country anywhere in the
world .
Aliyu said that at any point during the
survey, the NAIIS project had at least 3 , 000
workers collecting and reporting data on
the field .
The NACA boss said the survey measured
the incidence and prevalence of HIV , level
of virological suppression and the
epidemiological impact of the HIV
programme among different age groups.
He said , “ The survey we have done today
shows that the prevalence of HIV /AIDS in
Nigeria for people within the ages of 15
and 49 is 1. 4 per cent. The number of
persons living with HIV in Nigeria is also
based on the population of the country .
“The National Population Commission figure
that we were given is a population of 193
million in Nigeria . So , based on that, our
estimate of persons living with HIV / AIDS is
now 1. 9 million persons . The prevalence for
women is 1. 9 per cent and that of men is
0. 9 per cent . So , for every two women that
have HIV/ AIDS , there is one man that has
it. ”
Powered by Ru In his remark , the Minister of Health, Prof.
Isaac Adewole , thanked the US Government
and Global Fund which contributed over
$70m to the project
Chief of Party for the NAIIS project , Aliyu

was a higher prevalence of HIV /AIDS in
urban areas than rural settlements .

Inec is frustrating me, Gov. Okorocha said after he was denied certificate of return as one of the senators

The Imo State Governor , Rochas Okorocha ,
has said some people he respects are
behind the refusal of the Independent
National Electoral Commission to issue him
a certificate of return as Senator
representing Imo West .
The governor said the plot was to frustrate
his chances at emerging a principal officer
of the senate and cripple him ahead of the
2023 general elections .
Okorocha spoke in Abuja on Thursday after
the INEC did not include him among elected
members of the National Assembly invited
for the presentation of certificate of
returns .
He said , “I was not there because INEC
removed my name from the list of senators
having been declared the winner by the
zonal returning officer.
“So , I am actually waiting to hear why INEC
struck my name out . I think probably , INEC
must be trying to do something special
because I understand once results have
been declared and returns made , then you
are bound to be issued a certificate of
return. But to have exempted me , I am in
darkness as to what was the reason why I
was not invited to collect my certificate of

Gov. Okoroacha blasts APC: Posterity will judge Ozodimma and oshiomhole

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has
said that the National Chairman of All
Progressives Congress , Mr Adams
Oshiomhole , and the party ’ s governorship
candidate, Senator Hope Uzodimma , are to
blame for the inability of the party to win
the governorship election .
He said posterity would judge the two for
their alleged roles in the election.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press
Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo in Owerri
on Thursday , the governor alleged that
Uzodinma worked for the Peoples
Democratic Party in the just concluded
elections .
He said Uzodimma was one of the first to
celebrate with the PDP candidate, Chief
Emeka Ihedioha , after he was declared the
winner of the election , citing a video of the
two contestants as proof of his guilt.

“We had maintained that Chief Uzodinma
was just a mole in the APC and today , the
governorship election in the state and its
outcome have obviously vindicated us,
aside from the fact that a video of Chief
Uzodinma’ s celebration with Ihedioha has
gone viral on the social media. ”
He also alleged that Uzodimma succeeded
in the alleged plot by ensuring only his
supporters were made agents of the party ,
adding that his target was to destroy APC in
the South- East .
“Chief Uzodinma succeeded through Adams
Oshiomhole to ensure that only his
supporters were made agents of the party ,
from the list he sent from Abuja to the
Independent National Electoral Commission.
“Unfortunately , none of Uzodinma’ s and
Oshiomhole ’ s approved agents were seen
either at the ward , local government or at
the state level ; they didn ’ t care about the
election and its outcome .
“At the end of the day , the APC candidate
came fourth . And he has been celebrating
with the PDP candidate. ”
“Their target as it has been shown now is
to totally destroy APC in the South- East and
in Imo in particular , thereby authenticating
the claim in some quarters that it is all
about 2023 .
“We had equally maintained the contention
that Imo people would not vote for
Uzodinma because they know him very
well, but Oshiomhole refused to listen .
“He came fourth and never showed that he
took part in the election ; posterity and
history will judge Oshiomhole and
Uzodinma over the fate of APC in the South-
East , especially in Imo State , ” Okorocha
said .

Tragedy:plane crash in Ethiopia killing 149 and crew men

An Ethiopian Airlines jet has crashed shortly
after take-off from Addis Ababa, killing all on
The airline said 149 passengers and eight crew
members were on flight ET302 from the
Ethiopian capital to Nairobi in Kenya.
It said 32 Kenyans, 18 Canadians, eight
Americans and seven British nationals were
among the passengers.
The crash happened at 08:44 local time, six
minutes after the months-old Boeing 737 Max-8
took off.

Air disasters timeline

Do we know how it happened?

The cause of the disaster is not yet clear.
However, the pilot had reported difficulties and
had asked to return to Addis Ababa, the airline
"At this stage, we cannot rule out anything,"
Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde Gebremariam
told reporters at Bole International Airport in
Addis Ababa.
"We cannot also attribute the cause to anything
because we will have to comply with the
international regulation to wait for the
Visibility was said to be good but air traffic
monitor Flightradar24 reported that the plane's
"vertical speed was unstable after take-off" .
An eyewitness at the scene told the BBC there
was an intense fire as the aircraft hit the
"The blast and the fire were so strong that we
couldn't get near it," he said. "Everything is
burnt down."
First word of the crash came when Prime
Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his "deepest
condolences" on Twitter.
The airline said that search and rescue
operations were under way near the crash site
around the town of Bishoftu, which is 60km (37
miles) south-east of the capital.

Who are the victims?

Mr Gebremariam told the news conference that
passengers from more than 30 countries were on
board the flight.
He said they included 32 Kenyans, 18
Canadians, nine Ethiopians, eight Italians,
eight Chinese, eight Americans, seven Britons,
seven French citizens, six Egyptians, five Dutch
citizens, four Indians and four people from
Slovak MP Anton Hrnko later confirmed via
Facebook that his wife and two children were on
the plane.
Three Austrians, three Swedes, three Russians,
two Moroccans, two Spaniards, two Poles and two
Israelis were also on the flight.
There was also one passenger each from
Belgium, Indonesia, Somalia, Norway, Serbia,
Togo, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sudan, Uganda
and Yemen.
Four people held United Nations passports, the
airline said, and it believed some passengers
could have been heading to a session of the UN
Environment Assembly which begins in Nairobi on
What do we know about the plane?
The 737 Max-8 aircraft is relatively new to the
skies, having been launched in 2016. It was
added to the Ethiopian Airlines fleet in July
last year.
Boeing said it was "deeply saddened" by the
crash and offered to send a team to provide
technical assistance.
Another plane of the same model was involved
in a crash five months ago, when a Lion Air
flight crashed into the sea near Indonesia with
nearly 190 people on board.
Investigators say the pilots of that aircraft had
appeared to struggle with an automated system
designed to keep the plane from stalling - a
new feature of the Boeing 737 Max.
The anti-stalling system repeatedly forced the
plane's nose down, despite efforts by pilots to
correct this, findings suggest.

Lion Air: How could a brand new plane
There is no suggestion that the Ethiopian
Airlines jet suffered similar issues on Sunday.
What about the airline's safety record?
Ethiopian Airlines flies to many destinations in
Africa, making it a popular carrier in a
continent where many airlines fly only from
their home country to destinations outside
It has a good reputation for safety, although in
2010 one of the company's aeroplanes crashed
in the Mediterranean Sea shortly after leaving
The incident killed 90 people on board.
The airline's highest fatalities prior to this came
in a November 1996 crash during a hijacking on
a flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi.
One of the plane's engines stopped when the
fuel ran out and although pilots attempted an
emergency water landing, they hit a coral reef
in the Indian Ocean and 123 of the 175 people
on board were killed.

in particular , and the country in general.
Gone are the days when youths restiveness
will impede development. ”

harmonious working relationship between
the executive , legislature and the judiciary;
and the benefit at this was for all
Nigerians .

South-South zone will stabilise the polity,
focus on its statutory role of making laws.
Furthermore, a Senate President from the
region will avoid unnecessary clashes with
the executive as has been witnessed in the
recent past . ”

From 17 local gov't, Abia SDP suspends members for anti-party

The Social
Democratic Party in Abia State,  through the state working committee  has
suspended the 17 chairmen of its local
government chapters for alleged support of ikpeazu .
 Chief Chidi
Nwosu, who is the party chairperson announced the suspension, on
Wednesday, while addressing newsmen on
the details  of a party meeting in
Umuahia .
The party also set up a seven - member panel
to “further investigate appropriately the
actions of the chairmen ”.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the
chairmen were suspended for adopting
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as their candidate
for the March 9 governorship poll.
Aside from adopting Ikpeazu, the chairmen
advised the SDP’ s governorship candidate,
Dr . Blessing Nwagba , to drop her ambition
and step down from the race .
the SDP Working Committee
dissociated itself from the purported
adoption, saying that the action of the
chairmen did not represent the position of
the party .
Nwosu said , “ The chairmen took the
unilateral decision, contrary to the position
of our party at the national and state
chapter, which amounted to anti-party
activity . ”

Tribunal granted Atiku's request to inspect election material used on the 23 Feb poll

The appeal court
on Wednesday granted the request by
Peoples Democratic Party and its
presidential candidate , Atiku Abubakar , to
be allowed to inspect the electoral materials
used by the Inec for the conduct of the February
23 general  election .
But A three-man panel led by Justice
Abdul Aboki unanimously rejected other

The tribunal also refused their requests to

Delivering the lead ruling, Justice Aboki
said by virtue of the provision of section
151 of the Electoral Act on which the
applicants ’ motion ex parte was anchored ,
they were only entitled to inspection of the
electoral materials and the certified true
copies of all the materials used for the poll.
The two other members of the panel ,
Justices Peter Ige and Emmanuel Agim ,
agreed with the lead ruling.
Earlier, the three-man panel , in a pre-
hearing session of the tribunal had on
Wednesday, entertained the applicants ’
argument for about 45 minutes and rose.
It promised to return in one hour ’ s time to
deliver its ruling but did not return until
about three hours after .
The applicants ’ legal team was led by Mr.
Livy Ozoukwu ( SAN ) , but Chief Chris Uche
( SAN ) , made submissions on behalf of the
team .
As expected in an ex parte hearing, the
respondents – President Muhammadu
Buhari , the All Progressives Congress and
the Independent National Electoral
Commission – were absent and not
represented by their lawyers .
Uche said during the Wednesday ’ s hearing
that the ex parte motion contained six
prayers, one of which sought the tribunal ’ s
leave to bring the motion up in the tribunal
pre-hearing session .
He added , “ Prayers 2 to 6 are in summary
seeking orders of this honourable court to
allow the inspection and production of
election documents used by the
Independent Electoral Commission for the
conduct of the presidential election to
enable the applicants to institute and
maintain an election petition. ”
But during the proceedings , members of the
panel expressed reservations about whether
the tribunal could grant some prayers
contained in the application for orders
allowing them to scan and photocopy
electoral materials as well as allow them to
conduct forensic examination and forensic
audit of the materials .
Uche stood on ground  that there were
authorities of the Court of Appeal which
had interpreted section 155 of the Electoral
Act to mean that petitioners could be
granted all the prayers sought in the ex
parte application.

Buhari will not join oshomole in my suspension. Gov. Okoroacha

The Imo State Governor , Rochas Okorocha ,
has distanced President Muhammadu
Buhari from what he called “ lawlessness ”
allegedly being perpetrated in the All
Progressives Congress by the National
Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole .
Okorocha, in a statement on Sunday by his
Chief Press Secretary , Sam Onwuemeodo ,
said Buhari “is too decent” to be backing
Oshiomhole in his unlawful actions.
The governor said Oshiomhole had done “ so
many strange things in APC . ”
Okorocha described his suspension and that
of his Ogun State counterpart , Ibikunle
Amosun, from APC as worrisome.
He said Oshiomhole ’ s idea of party
supremacy was lawlessness .
The statement read, “Adams Oshiomhole
has done so many strange things with the
party and it would be wrong for anybody to
think that President Buhari , known for his
penchant for decency , honesty and
forthrightness would be on the same page
with the national chairman.
“The President was voted by Nigerians
across the geo -political zones because he
has proved to be real and can be trusted .
When he said he was fighting corruption,
you saw it happening . It cannot be the
same thing with someone who saw sold the
tickets of the party to the highest bidders.

“We have yet to see any Nigerian living
that would have defeated President Buhari
in that election . He has earned the
confidence and trust of most Nigerians , and
in states where he lost, you could see traces
of wanton manipulation and mutilation of
election figures like in the case of Imo .
“ In other words , the President has nothing
to do with Oshiomhole ’ s disdain for the
right actions and the chairman ’ s penchant
for lawlessness and total disregard for the
party ’ s constitution. ”

Pastors and prophets who gave wrong prophesy over the just concluded election. Also read to know their fake prophecies

Many Nigerian pastors and prophecies are
like Siamese twins . There is hardly any
salient issue they don ’ t make prophesy on.
But most times, the fabulous predictions ,
usually attributed to inspiration from God ,
are always inaccurate.
The last presidential election received
several unsolicited prophecies which
particularly targeted President Muhammadu
Buhari of the All Progressives Congress and
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples
Democratic Party . Though the predictions
appeared scary and laughable, they later
turned out to be wide of the mark .
One of the prophecy merchants is a
Nigerian pastor based in South Africa,
Samuel Akinbodunse . The dark -skinned
cleric in a video , which circulated on the
Internet weeks before electioneering ,
walked with a measured spring in his step
as he spoke to the congregation inside the
capacious Freedom For All Nations
Outreach church.
In a finality brooking no interference, he
told the ecstatic congregation , “ Please
Nigerians warn Buhari that he is going
beyond his boundary . That the Lord said
his tenure is once and not twice . If not , he
will not see the election o. If you know him
and how to email the Presidency of Nigeria ,
please write ( send ) him a text ( message) . If
he made ( makes ) a mistake to campaign for
elections , before they vote, he will die. ”
At this point , panic gripped some of the
congregation , who were already standing,
but clapped several times for the cleric ’ s
damning prediction that sank into the
expansive auditorium .
He continued , “And I am saying the truth, I
am saying the truth . Tell him the same
voice that spoke when people said Jonathan
would be the President of Nigeria , the same
voice is speaking to him that he must not
make that mistake. Let him eat whatever he
wants to eat inside ( the ) sugar that he is
now and leave the sugar jejely . If not , he
will die . That is just the message. I am not
afraid of… Any man who kill ( sic ) me today
him help me because eternity is waiting for
me already . If you kill me today, many
Samuels will rise tomorrow . What is the
essence of killing me because there are
many Samuels that will rise ?”
The cleric ’ s prophecy is abundantly
inaccurate as the presidential and National
Assembly elections were not only shifted
from February 16 to February 23 by the
Independent National Electoral Commission,
Buhari also participated in electioneering
with his party , and INEC later declared him
winner of the election .
Akinbodunse ’ s prediction went off the
mark as events later proved but Nigerians ,
via the social media, expectedly lashed out
at him .
On a social network site , Nairaland ,
Brightest 04 said , “ He wants to let people
know that he exists. I don ’ t blame him;
after sleeping with other people ’ s wives , he
intends to see things. I think these men
have taken God and His name as a toy ;
hence they use his name vainly . And this
stupidity is synonymous with Christians . ”

Saying he holds a degree in Systematic
Theology, Brightest 04 added , “ It baffles me
how people roughly use the name of their
creator and indeed the creator of
everything in existence in a foolish way .
These men are satanically- controlled and
the people who listen to them have to be
careful so that they don ’ t partake in their
calamities. ”
Earlier, Akinbodunse , in another sermon ,
which video gripped the Internet, said the
country ’ s next President was a youth whose
name starts with letter ‘ S ’ .
He stated that he would not say what God
didn’ t tell him, urging Buhari to step down
for the youth with a call on ex-President
Olusegun Obasanjo to support the incoming
‘ youth ’ President.
Powered by Ru Also, a pastor of the Christ Apostolic
Church, Akure, Ondo State, Simeon
Akorede, reportedly predicted Buhari ’ s
defeat in the presidential election .
Though Akorede said God didn’ t tell him
who would become the country ’ s next
president when he spoke with journalists in
Akure, he noted that God showed him that
Buhari had lost the opportunity and the
grace to rule Nigeria again .
He said , “God revealed to me that the
incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari is
not given the grace to govern Nigeria for a
second term . ”
But the results of the presidential election
released by INEC made mincemeat of
Akorede’ s prediction. The commission said
Buhari won his re- election bid polling
15, 191 , 847 votes to defeat Atiku who got
11, 262 , 978 .
The prophetic utterance of Prophet John
Ogundele of the Recreation Word Apostolic
Church, Lagos, about the presidential
election was entirely different from others .
He ruled that neither Buhari nor Atiku
would emerge winner of the election .
In a video showing him in a service / prayer
session , Ogundele stated before the
congregation , “You may be calculating in
your mind that if Buhari doesn’ t become
the President, then it will be Atiku because
Obasanjo supports him.
“Let me tell you as a prophet of God that
among Obasanjo, Atiku and Buhari and
those who you think are influential ( in the
country ) , God said He had withdrawn
power from them. None of them will get on
to the seat of power . Atiku will spend a lot
of money but the money will cause conflicts
in the country . If Atiku doesn’ t come , there
will be no new government. ”
In the number 30 of his 50 prophecies for
2019 released last December, the General
Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries
International, Apostle Johnson Suleiman,
said , “ I saw most eastern states won by the
APC at the national level . ” By whatever
interpretation given to the prophecy , it
didn’ t come to pass as far as the last
presidential election was concerned .
Either in the number of states in the
eastern region or lawmakers produced for
the National Assembly , the PDP won most
votes and the states in the South- East , and

Like many of his past prophecies that
didn’ t come to pass , the Presiding Bishop,
Divine Seed of God Chapel Ministries,
Ibadan , Oyo State, Wale Olagunju, had
predicted several months before the
presidential election that Buhari would be
roundly defeated by Atiku .
Being based in Ibadan , the Oyo State
capital, his prophecy might have come true,
at least in the state , where Atiku
marginally defeated Buhari in the
presidential poll.
Quoting him in one of his interviews with a
national newspaper , Olagunju said , “ Let me
congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari
for winning the ticket of his party , the All
Progressives Congress , and let me also
make it clear to him that he will lose to
Atiku Abubakar . Let me also congratulate
Atiku in advance because he will win the
next presidential election come 2019.
“Let me say , as a matter of fact , that Buhari
does not need an alfa or prophet to deceive
him that he would win the election , for as
God lives , he would lose . ”
The elections have come and gone but the
outcome thoroughly faulted Olagunju’ s
For Prophet David Babalola of His Presence
Redemption Ministry International, Lagos ,
Atiku would trounce Buhari in the election .
He stated that he was on a mountain and
saw Buhari on the right and Atiku on the
He said he asked God what the vision
meant and God told him, “ I can go back for
the good to come . For you to have the best ,
that means there is bad before the good . It
is power turnaround . ’’
Babalola said , “I look at the announcement
they announced ( sic ) . They said Atiku have
( has) won the presidency . Let everyone
pray effectively that they will hand over . ’’
The cleric added that Atiku had been
ordained Nigeria ’ s President since 2012 ,
saying, “Atiku won the election. ’’
But despite the cacophony of failed
prophecies on the presidential election ,
Prophet Emmanuel Stephen of the
Mountain of Grace and Glory Ministry
Worldwide, Lagos, reeled out a prediction
which left the congregation and those who
watched the video online in a pensive
Before the poll shift , the prophet said he
saw that Atiku wanted to sit on a seat
decorated in the nation ’ s colours ; but
someone took the seat away from him and
he sat on the floor before the seat
reappeared and the incumbent President
Buhari sat majestically on it .
After the poll delay, in another online
video, the prophet stated , “ Between Atiku
and Buhari , I said something in my earlier
prophecy. As Atiku walked to sit on a
throne decorated with the country ’ s
colours , someone came and removed the
throne and he sat on the floor . Last
December, I said when the throne
reappeared ; the current President Buhari
already sat on it.
“I want to make a major comment about it
because many of those who made
comments about the video of the prophecy
online don’ t know who God is. There is a
time God will look and changed His mind .
There are several places in the Bible where
God changed his mind .
“As of December last year , I saw Buhari on
the throne as President . The surprising
thing is that even as the presidential
election is six days away , the prophecy has
not changed . The man I saw walk to the
throne is not the man that sat on it. What
makes a prophet a genuine one is the
confident of maintaining what you have
said . ” After that utterance , the video ended.
Commenting on the issue , a senior pastor at
the Glory Centre Community Church, Lagos,
Pastor Kunle Zakariya , said there were
many reasons why it appeared that some
prophecies don’ t come to pass .
He said , “ Many prophecies have been
fulfilled in the past and we cannot deny
the fact that prophecies come to pass . For
instance, Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter
Rain Assembly gave a prophecy about the
1992 elections that came to pass . Pastor
Enoch Adeboye has also given many
prophecies that came to pass. ”
Zakariya told SUNDAY PUNCH that
prophecies didn ’ t come to pass owing to
many reasons , ranging from fake pastors to
misinterpreting prophecies by even some
genuine men of God .
He said , “However , some prophecies do not
come to pass because God didn ’ t talk to the
person; they were probably based on the
person’ s bias . Such bias could be political ,
ethnic or logic -based . “Many times , when
one has a bias , one will think one is
hearing God but one is only hearing one ’ s
bias . At times , people don’ t hear God ; they
just make predictions by studying the
situation and wanting to predict . People
who do that are not genuine men of God .
“Another reason it looks like prophecies
don’ t come to pass is because most of
times, people don ’ t understand that
prophecy is a major school . The Bible says
that we prophesy in part because we see in
part . ”
The cleric added that there were different
stages of a prophetic word.
Zakariya said , “ You receive the prophecy,
interpret it and deliver it. Most pastors miss
it in the aspect of interpreting the
prophecy. For example, during Buhari and
the late President Umaru Yar’ Adua ’ s
tribunal tussle , a man of God saw a vision
where Yar’ Adua was wheeled out of Aso
Rock. He interpreted that because it was
the time of the tribunal Buhari would win
at the tribunal and Yar’ Adua was on his
way out of Aso Rock. He saw the right
prophecy but he interpreted wrongly . It was
later he understood that Yar’ Adua was
going to leave through sickness and it was
the typology of the wheel chair he saw . ”
He noted that a man of God could get a
prophecy and miss the interpretation
because the language pattern of God was
different from men ’ s.
“I think the lessons for all of us to know
that God is God and man is man . We also
need to know that some genuine one can
appear to miss it, where they miss it is the
interpretation , ” Zakariya stated while
buttressing his point further .
“Some prophecies also have conditions ; you
might see the prophecies and miss the
condition. For instance, somebody might
see that Buhari is going if certain things
happen. You might see that Buhari is going
but the other person see that part you
didn’ t see and you didn ’ t see that other
part . ”
The pastor added that to forestall such in
the church, pastors should unite and get a
broader view and an accurate
interpretation of prophecies before reeling
them out to the public .
He said , “ This is where I think the church
has to be united . Prophetic word from the
elders of the body of Christ should be
judged by themselves . There should be a
council. I think where they can share note ,
and then share strong and true prophetic
words for the nations . But there is no doubt
that prophesying is accurate . We have seen
it in the Bible and even in contemporary
times. Prophecies are true, people
sometimes miss the interpretation and
there are also fake pastors . ”
He further said he could not tell whether a
pastor should share a prophecy or not
because the Lord who showed them would
teach them how to administer it.

APC demands Oshiomhole ’ s resignation
On his part , an Islamic cleric , Alfa Jamal
Ahmed, said many people enjoyed saying
things to please themselves , adding that all
utterances and one ’ s ways should be
committed to God .
He said , “ If you notice, you hardly see
Islamic clerics go about saying all sorts
although few of them do so . Most times ,
those people who give all those prophecies
speak based on what they want and for the
candidates of their choice. They are not
speaking God ’ s mind . ”
