(Imo guber) uche nwosu becomes the flag bearer of Action alliance (AA) for 2019 election

INEC Accepts Uche Nwosu's name as Action Alliance Candidate for 2019 Imo Guber election

–As DPP Rejects Uche Nwosu's Candidature due to irreconcilable differences

The former Chief of Staff to Imo State Government and Son-in-law to Governor Rochas Okorocha, Mr Uche Nwosu has successfully secured the nod of the Action Alliance (AA) to fly her party flag in the 2019 Imo governorship election.

The negotiation with Action Alliance which started Wednesday November 28th was concluded on Thursday November 29th after the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) rejected offers made by the Okorocha’s Son-in-law to fly their party's flag.

We reliably gathered that insistence by the Uche Nwosu's technical team led by Hon (Bar) Ikenna Emeh for the Ugwumba Uche Nwosu Campaign Organization to take over the leadership structure of the Democratic Peoples Party from the ward, down 27 LGAs and State Excos and substitute names of Imo State House of Assembly candidates already in the party with members of the Imo State House of Assembly denied tickets in the All Progressive Congress (APC) was vehemently rejected and it forced the Rescue Mission family to quickly make a U-turn and embrace Action Alliance.

It was alleged that one Rowland Ogbuka camped at Imo Governor's Lodge, who serves as INEC Ad-hoc staff could not successfully negotiate the actualisation of the DPP move as he was fronted.

It is believed that members of the rescue mission government who weren't successful at securing the APC ticket will now fly the Action Alliance ticket. Action Alliance is number 2 in the Independent National Electoral Commission voters ballot paper after Accord Party which comes first in the ballot paper. The logo of the Action Alliance is a dove.

The inability of Hon Chike Okafor who won the All Progressive Congress ticket for Okigwe South Federal constituency to join Okorocha’s Son-in-law to Action Alliance has forced Prof Nnamdi Obiaraeri to withdraw from contesting for Okigwe senate seat under Action Alliance, rather prefers to pursue his legal action against the All Progressive Congress for disqualifying him in the guess of granting automatic ticket to Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu.

Due to the fact that he can't continue with his Senatorial race for Okigwe Zone, Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Acho Ihim from Okigwe LGA was nominated as Deputy Governorship running mate to Ugwumba Uche Nwosu.

FG tells US to be cautious of granting visa to Atiku(lai Mohammed)

The Federal Government tells the U.S. to be cautious in granting visa to the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in order not to create the impression of endorsing him for the 2019 election.
Lai Mohammed
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, gave the government position at an interactive session with media executives in Abuja on Thursday.
Mohammed said that the government was aware of the move by the former Vice President to lobby the U.S. to lift the visa ban imposed on him.
He said, while the U.S. has the prerogative of whom to issue visa, it should be mindful of the timing, in order not to give the impression that Atiku has been endorsed by the U.S. government.

“We understand and appreciate the fact that it is the prerogative of the U.S. to grant a visa to anyone who applies.
“However, we want the U.S. to be neutral and be wary of taking any decision that will give the impression that they are favouring or endorsing one candidate over the other
“Impression must not be created that the U.S. government is endorsing one particular candidate over the other,’’ he said.
2019: Atiku Prioritises Job Creation, Education, Restructuring, Others
The minister recalled that for years, there has been a kind of congressional bi-partisan investigation on corruption against certain individuals which had made it difficult for Atiku to secure a U.S. visa.
“I am sure you will all recall the Jefferson’s case and the cold 90,000 U.S. dollar in fridge.
“We are not unaware that Atiku has engaged the services of some lobbyists to persuade the U.S. to issue visa to him.
“Our position is that if the former Vice President is seeking the U.S. visa we have no problem about it.
“However, we want the U.S. government not to create the impression that it is endorsing one candidate over the other,’’ he said.
Speaking on security, the minister insisted that despite the recent set back brought about by attacks on the military, the Boko Haram insurgents had been largely decimated.
He recalled that when they took over in 2015, Boko Haram was active in 10 states including the FCT where they chose where and when to attack
The minister said that 20 of the 27 Local Government Areas in Borno were under the insurgents where they hoisted their flags collected taxes and deposed the Emirs.
He said since they took over, no inch of Nigeria territory is under the control of the insurgents who now operated in the fringes
“What happened was a set-back and it is not enough to say that we are losing the war against the Boko Haram.
“We want to appreciate the gallant military who are sacrificing day and night and those who have lost their lives to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty,’’ he said.
The Minister added that the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Borno and his ongoing visit to Chad were indications of renewed vigour to end the war.
Mohammed also denied the allegations that the government was closing media space against the opposition.
On the arrest of Deji Adeyanju, convener of Concerned Nigerians by the Police, the minister noted that “being an activist or in the opposition does not protect anyone from arrest and prosecution’’.
He said the case had been charged to court and it would be prejudicial to make further comments on it. (NAN)

Update:Jamb announce commencement date for 2019/2020(UTME)registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday announced that registration for 2019/ 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence in December.
The Head of Media of the Board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced this while addressing newsmen during the conduct of promotion exercise for the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), at the board’s Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre in Abuja,NAN reports.
According to Benjamin, no specific date has been fixed for the commencement of the registration yet.
He, however, said that plans were underway to do so as soon as possible as the board was initially waiting for the pronouncement of the presidency on the reduction of the examinations fee, which was formally announced on Wednesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved the downward review of the examination registration fees from N5,000 to N3,500 effective from January 2019.
The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, announced this after the meeting.

Benjamin said it was commendable what the President had done as he was someone, who had always had the interest of the masses at heart and would prove to ensure that no Nigerian was deprived of tertiary education.
” The president has overtime, expressed concern that the charges were high.
” Our consistent remittance has proven that something could actually be done and even if charges are reduced, examinations can still be conducted with no service suffering any issue of funding.
” The president has taken this bold step, we will see what happens after this reduction and if need be for further reduction, Mr President will do so in no distant time because he has concerns for the ordinary Nigerian on the streets.

Update:(Asuu strike)Asuu tells students and parents that they want to save universities from rot

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has called on parents and students to show understanding in repositioning and saving the country’ s university system from total collapse .
The ASUU National President , Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi , made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Thursday.
NAN reports that university lecturers had on November 5, embarked on strike , demanding for the implementation of the 2009 agreement it entered into with the Federal Government .

The lecturers are also calling for the full implementation of the Memorandum of Action agreement with the Federal Government in 2017; improved working conditions and welfare package ; and upgrade of facilities in universities across the country.
According to Ogunyemi , the strike is not to short- change neither the students nor the parents and other key stakeholders but to save the country’ s university system from collapse .
“ We want to call on our students and parents to show understanding with our struggle as we are in this together.
“ The whole essence of this struggle is to ensure that our students get worthy and deserving certificates that they will be proud of anywhere they may find themselves in the world .
“ The struggle is to ensure that we save Nigerian universities from going the way our public primary and secondary schools have gone.
“ Today , most parents are sending their children and wards to private primary and secondary schools around the country because of the perceived or alleged falling standards .
“ We do not want our universities to go same way because a lot of our parents may not be able to afford the private university fees , ’’ he said .
The ASUU boss added that there was an urgent need for both the Federal and State Governments to reconsider their approach toward the development of universities in the country , to avoid an outright collapse in the near future.
“ The sad thing now is that the World Bank is giving funds to some private universities to thrive over public universities.
“ Unless Nigerians rise to the occasion and join ASUU in putting pressure on both the Federal and State Governments to pay adequate attention to our universities, secondary and primary schools, we may be facing a total collapse of our educational sector, ‘’ Ogunyemi said .
He noted that university students might be staying longer at home as no concrete resolution had been reached with the Federal Government so far .
Ogunyemi said that representatives of the union met with the Federal Government on Monday , November 26 but that the meeting ended in a deadlock.
“ We met on Monday in order to reach an agreement on the key issues we are agitating for but nothing tangible came out of the meeting .
“ Rather than come out with firm commitment on what to do about these demands , they were appealing to us to go back to the classrooms while they tackle the issues; and to us they have missed the point.
“ We were told that the negotiation will continue on Friday, November 30 but up till now , as we speak , I have not received any notice of meeting to that effect , ’’ he said .

(Asuu strike) negotiations between Asuu and FG were adjourned without resolving the strike issue

Another meeting between the federal government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ended on Monday night without an agreement.
The meeting which started at about 5 p.m. at the Federal Ministry of Education was to find a lasting solution to the ongoing strike by the university lecturers.
The union embarked on the strike three weeks ago over the poor funding of Nigerian universities and non-implementation of previous agreements by the government.
Speaking with journalists after Monday’s meeting, the National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, said negotiation is ongoing and the meeting would continue at a later date.
“All I can say for now is that negotiation continues and the meeting has been adjourned to a later date,” Mr Ogunyemi said.
The union leader had on Sunday told PREMIUM TIMES that there were two basic conditions that could make ASUU suspend the ongoing strike. One was the implementation of the 2017 agreement between both parties; and the other the disbandment of the federal government negotiation committee headed by senior lawyer Wale Babalakin.
In a related development, Aminu Suleiman, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education Services during an oversight visit to the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu, expressed deep concern over the continued strike by ASUU.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, Mr Adamu told his guests that the federal government was determined to “confine the strikes in education sector to the dustbin of history, adding however that funding remains the greatest obstacle”.
The lawmaker said there is need for both parties to go beyond resolving the current strike and agree on lasting solutions that will make strikes in the education sector a thing of the past

ASUU Strike: FG Gets Fresh Conditions Hours To 5pm Meeting Today

The Academic Staff Union of Universitis (ASUU) has tabled fresh conditions upon which the ongoing nationwide strike in the asector will be suspended.

According to the union's President, Abiodun Ogunyemi, the leadership of Federal Government negotiating team (Dr. Wale Babalakin, others) should be yanked from today's meeting with ASUU executives.

Ogunyemi noted that another topmost condition for the suspension of the industrial action is “the full implementation of the Memorandum of Action (MoA) which the two parties willingly signed in October 2017.”

He said, “So the MoA must be implemented fully before we can even talk of suspension of the strike. If they implement the outstanding issues in the MoA fully and change the leadership of the negotiating team, then we can go back to the negotiation,” Mr Ogunyemi said.

Imo PDP Breaks, As N-PDP Emerges

Hundreds of members of the Imo state Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Monday formed a New- PDP with Fabian Ihekweme as the state Chairman.

The N-PDP, was formed in Owerri, capital of Imo state, at Villa Garden Hotel. The N-PDP has as Deputy chairman, Jerry Ogoke, Secretary, Ifeanyi Oguzie, while Johnbosco Ben and Christigonus Okoro as spokesperson and Organizing Secretary respectively. The legal adviser was given to Uche Igbokwe.

They also gave the National Working Committee, NWC, of PDP, on or before 29th of November 2018, to resolve all the issues or face mass exodus of defection of members of the PDP to opponent camp. Giving reasons for the emergence of the N-PDP, Ihekweme said:

“How can it be explained that a major political party like the PDP could not return a single female gender out of a total of 42 elective positions that were offered to the party members and even the few women that emerged were brazenly removed at Abuja. “Again to add pepper to injury, some of the validly elected aspirants in the field that contested for House of Assembly and House of Representatives were fraudulently replaced at the Wadata House without recourse to due process.”

Ihekweme described the activities prior to the governorship primaries of the party that,

“What we saw as loyal party members was in fact a subterranean move by one man parading himself as both a leader and agent of the NWC.” “The whole arrangement was aimed at shortchanging the rest of us, into rubber stamping his own emergence as the legitimate winner of the grossly manipulated and flawed process.”

(Asuu strike): FG/ASUU will hold a crucial meeting today (Monday)in a bid to end strike

The Federal Government is expected to hold another emergency meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday in a bid to end the ongoing strike in public universities.
The last meeting between the two parties took place on November 15. Despite the meeting lasting for six hours , the strike was not called off because no agreement was reached.
Our correspondent learnt on Sunday that today ’ s meeting would again focus on the issues in the 2017 Memorandum of Action , which the union claimed the Federal Government had neglected.
Public universities lecturers began their strike on November 5, saying the Federal Government had failed to implement the key areas of focus contained in the MoA .
From a copy of the FG /ASUU 2017 agreement obtained by our correspondent, the issues still under contention are the funding of public universities , earned academic allowances , salary shortfalls and pension matters .
The President of ASUU, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi , in an interview with our correspondent on Sunday confirmed the union ’ s meeting with the Federal Government would take place on Monday .
Ogunyemi said , “ There is supposed to be a meeting tomorrow evening ( Monday ) . It all depends on the way government approaches it. If they invite us further, we will go . It also depends on what they put on the table. We met them briefly and we agreed to meet on Monday ( today) .
“ We met with the Minster of Education ( Adamu Adamu ) on Thursday and it was a short meeting. We have given them our terms . I am not representing myself but those who have given us a clear mandate and we shall abide by the terms . ”
The Federal Government ’ s delegation led by the Minister of Labour and Employment , Chris Ngige, in their meeting with ASUU leaders on November 15 appealed to the union to consider the interest of the students and end the strike.
